Reports and Statistics

*Tip:  This section also covers vTask Usage Statistics, at the bottom of the page.

Reports allow you to view and print a script. They are created in either Text, CSV (Comma Separated Values), HTML, Excel spreadsheet, or Image (bitmap) format. This feature displaying, printing, and storing the results of a script run.

*Tip:  Once you run a report, it provides a static snapshot of the script run. You can change the formatting or print the report, without needing to run vTask - it is a standalone HTML or XLS file.

Some basic report option are available. You can change the Max Text Length so that the "Text" column used by the action does not become too long to display on the report.

The Excel spreadsheet output will look similar to the following:

The Comma Separated output will look similar to the following:

The Text output option will look similar to the following example.

The Image (bitmap) output option provides the same output as the Grid Snapshot feature.

*Tip:  You can change the text of the Run Result that is output in a report in the Tools - Options - Log/Reports screen. This allows you to change the "Success" text to something like "Pass" or "OK".

  vTask Usage Statistics

This feature displays interesting information about how you have used vTask Studio. It is interesting to occasionally check the number of steps added, how many times the program was run, the count of scripts run, etc.

*Tip:  Please note these stats are generic in nature, and are NOT used for any other purpose. This data is for informational purposes only. They are stored in the registry under "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\vTask\Report" and can be deleted at any time. To permanently stop usage tracking, disable the "Track Usage Statistics" option in the Tools -> Options -> Log screen.

To view the statistics, choose the "Show vTask Usage Stats" menu:

Of special interest is the breakdown of categories used. This may provide insight into things that could be added to Favorites, or which categories are not being used for maximum benefit.

At any time, the statistics can be erase and disabled. To permanently stop usage tracking, disable the "Track Usage Statistics" option in the Tools -> Options -> Log screen.
