Actions List and Favorites

The Actions List is the primary toolbox of vTask that you will use to create your scripts. Knowing how to use it, as well as some of its shortcuts, will allow you to quickly design scripts.

*Tip:  Be sure to check out on this page how you can use Favorites to organize your most commonly used actions.

There are various ways to add a new action to your main script:

Using "Favorites"

There is a special section at the top of the Actions list called "Favorites" which you can customize by adding and removing frequently used actions.

To add a new action to the Favorites, perform one of the following:

      1) Right-mouse click on the action, and choose the "Add to Favorites" entry:

      2) You can also drag an action to the top of the Actions List window (using an action from inside the action list, not the main list), and drop it:

      3) Right mouse click on any step in your script. This allows you to save a Favorite that has its Properties already configured to your needs. If you have a single step selected, it will show the following:

To add more than one Favorite of the same type, you must name each one differently. Right-mouse click on a Favorite entry, and select the "Rename Favorite" option:

Adding a Block of Steps as a Favorite

You can create a single Favorite entry that contains a group of many steps. This is a big time-saver, and allows you to have pre-defined scripts ready to drag and drop into new scripts. For example, you may frequently start a program, activate its window, as well as other "initialization" tasks. You can create a single Favorite entry that contains all of the needed steps.

A block of steps can be as big as you want, and can include hundreds of steps or more, with every option prepared ahead of time. To create a new Favorite block, select the group of steps that you want, and then right-mouse click, and choose "Add to Favorites":

You will then be prompted to name the Group. vTask Studio will suggest a name based on the starting step:

That's it! You now have a group block with all options configured (and a special "block" icon), that can be easily added to a script:

Managing Favorites

You can rearrange your Favorites at any time. Simply drag and drop their order inside of the Favorites list.

To remove a Favorite from the list, you can drag it off the Favorites list:

You can also right-mouse click on the action, and choose the "Remove from Favorites" entry. The real action entry will remain in its normal place in the main list.

To quickly delete all the Favorites, right-mouse click on the top "Favorites" category, and choose "Delete All Favorites" (see image below). You will be prompted before they are deleted.

Exporting and Importing Favorites

You can also Export all of your Favorites, using the "Export all Favorites (.reg)" menu command (see image below). After you export your Favorites, you can re-add them at any time by double-clicking the file, and restarting vTask.

When you double-click the .REG file, Windows will prompt you for verification. Click Yes to add the Favorites, which will overwrite any previous Favorites that you had.
