"Run File By Itself" option not working

Hi,

*Love* this program. I am just upgrading from 4.x, and I immediately ran into the following problem: When I double-click on a newly made .vxm file to run a macro, it is opening the file for editing in VistaTask instead of just running the macro by itself, even though I have selected the "Run the file by itself" option in the Files tab of the Options panel. Thoughts?

This has been fixed in the latest version 5.11 download at the main site, http://www.vtaskstudio.com

To use the fix, install the latest version, and go to the Tools - Options screen, choose the default action, and then be sure to press the "Apply" button to make the change take effect. It will work correctly afterwards.

Wow... what a fast turnaround. I am amazed. Thanks!

So let me add some detail to my earlier praise by saying that this program is saving my company about 20+ hours per week of manual data sharing/manipulation across multiple programs. What I originally envisioned as a "stopgap" automation measure is working so robustly and efficiently that the initiative to scrap our siloed applications for a big, expensive, multi-function application has lost all urgency.

With all of the pricey applications we are forced to buy, nothing has provided 1/100 the "bang for the buck" for us that VistaTask has. Great work, and my compliments to the author(s).

I've tried your VistaTask Pro 5.11, and noticed that when I try to compile a stand-alone exe file, I get an Error message: "Unable to compile: ... Error -8". Any thoughts? Jane

We answer every email that we receive, so your messages must have been stopped by a spam filter. VistaTask only compiles EXE's on Windows 2000 and up, not on Windows 98, which is probably what the problem is. The error message isn't very helpful in this case. We used to provide backward compatibility for Windows 98, but few of our users were on Win98 when we upgraded to version 5.11.

Just to clarify, VistaTask does run prefectly on Windows 98, it's only the compile feature that is not supported. All other program features are fully functional. To answer your question, yes, we do intend to add Windows 98 support for compiling EXEs, but very few of our current users are on it, and we have had only one or two requests to support Win98. That's why it didn't get priority during the current release. We hope to have sufficient resources to be able to add it to the next upgrade.
